On June 23, 1985, Air India Flight 182 exploded over Ahakista killing 329 passengers and crew. This beautiful memorial was erected by the people of Canada, India and Ireland and sits along the banks of the Sheep’s Head Peninsula in the Dunmanus Bay. Families, friends, locals and politicians meet on the anniversary of the crash to console and support each other. The memorial was one of the most beautiful things I saw in Ireland. It is peaceful, quiet and has benches where guests can sit and reflect. There’s a sundial at the memorial with this inscription:
Time flies
sun rise
And shadows fall
let it pass by
love reigns forever
over all
And indeed, love always wins.
